A beautiful and distinguishable part of Sydney’s culture and streetscape, this project was one that Crystal Pools thoroughly enjoyed working on, imprinting our knowledge to provide a primary pool and a speciality vitality pool.
History of the Iconic Sandstone Precinct
Located in the heart of Sydney’s Circular Quay are two iconic buildings built in c1876-1892 and c1912-1930. Each is listed on the State Heritage Register. Both are made from sandstone and reflect the architecture of the previous era, along with the grandeur to match. The refurbishment of these buildings has been in the pipeline for the last decade.
More commonly known as ‘The Sandstones’, these two structures were previously by government departments, with ‘The Education’ building previously closed to the public.
However, the recent $300 million dollar investment has seen the building take on a new life and transform into a world-class luxury hotel. It features 192 hotel rooms, along with two luxurious Crystal Pool pools, a spa and a gym. The top floor will feature a rooftop bar that all can enjoy. Additionally, the interior will feature refurbishments that combine existing elements to maintain the heritage features within the building.
Crystal Pools’ Impact

Crystal Pools installed two pools to accommodate the luxurious nature of the building. Each pool was crafted from fully formed concrete, and then tiled with porcelain coping. High-end finishes enhance the hotel’s aesthetic and ensure all compliance standards are met.
Main Pool
The main pool installed by Crystal Pools was sized at 20m x 4x9m, maintaining a constant depth of 1.2m. It features stainless steel ladders and handrails. Guests are invited to relax by the pool, wade in the shallows or practice a few laps if they feel the inclination on their break.
Vitality Pool
Crystal Pools installed a vitality pool, a great addition to any space that puts an emphasis on health and wellness. Working towards creating a luxurious 6-star hotel, the vitality pool is one that offers guests the option to indulge and recharge. It features a neck massager water feature and built-in seating for guests to immerse themselves in the state-of-the-art facility.
